CATL Unveils the World's Only "Ship-Shore-Cloud" Zero-Carbon Shipping and Smart Port and Shipping Integrated Solution

2025-12-04

On December 4, 2025, Contemporary Amperex Electric Vessel Co., Ltd. (CAEV), a subsidiary of CATL, officially launched the world's first and only "ship-shore-cloud" zero-carbon shipping and integrated smart port solution during Marintec China 2025. The Company also systematically presented its achievements since entering the maritime market in 2017 and future roadmap. As an important milestone in CATL's "Era of Comprehensive Growth," the solution is driving the electrification to extend from land to waterways, opening up a new green, intelligent, and sustainable path for global shipping.

Introduces CATL's "ship-shore-cloud" integrated solution

In previous ship operations, power supply, energy replenishment, and maintenance services were provided by separate suppliers. The resulting coordination challenges and ambiguous accountability led to persistent problems and inefficient operations throughout the 30-year service life. There were also high initial purchase costs, insufficient energy-replenishment infrastructure, range anxiety, complex water conditions, non-unified technical standards, and other systemic issues. This often traps shipowners in an operational dilemma of "unable to afford the ship, unable to charge it, and unable to make the economics work", which has become the core bottleneck restricting the large-scale development of zero-carbon shipping. Electric ships are not simply adaptation of land-based technologies. Their development needs to face the challenges of harsh operating environments such as high humidity, high salt spray, long-duration voyages, and high-power requirements.

To address these challenges, CATL has launched the "ship-shore-cloud" integrated solution, which is like a tailor-made service for ship operations — achieving full-chain integration ranging from the on-board power system and shore-based energy replenishment network to cloud-based intelligent management. This innovative model completely eliminates the long-standing pain points of fragmented multi-supplier collaboration, addressing various challenges throughout the 30-year operational cycle. On the ship side, it integrates battery systems, power systems, intelligent navigation systems, etc, to ensure the stable and long-distance operation of ships; on the shore side, through the charging and battery-swapping network and the "separation of ship and battery" model, it completely solves the energy-replenishment and cost anxiety; in the cloud, enabled by the intelligent management platform "Yunfan" and the intelligent navigation system "Beichen", ships can be remotely monitored, scheduled, and optimized. The solution significantly improves the operational efficiency of electric ships, not only reducing the operating costs but also enhancing the ship's safety and management convenience, truly making green shipping as easy, safe, and efficient as "driving an electric car".

Relying on its full industrial-chain technological advantages, CATL is driving the strategic transition of zero?carbon waterborne transportation towards green, smart, and sustainable development through leading full?ecosystem elements, full?lifecycle solutions, and an integrated service network. In 2017, CATL began its deployment in the ship field. In 2019, the first electric ship was launched and put into operation. As of today, CATL has delivered nearly 900 electric ships in total, firmly ranking first in the global market for  electric ship batteries. Since entering the zero?carbon waterborne ecosystem, CAEV has achieved numerous industry firsts, including the world's largest-capacity all-electric inland passenger ship "Changjiangsanxia 1", China's first all-electric sea-going passenger ship "Yujian 77" classed by the China Classification Society (CCS), China's first hybrid tugboat "Qinggang Tug 1", and China's first demonstration project of a cargo ship battery-swapping station with overall delivery and independent operation "Jining 6006". Its battery systems, energy management systems, and other hardware and software products have obtained certifications from the world's five major ship classification societies, opening the door to the global shipping market with high-quality Chinese products.

CATL has built comprehensive leading advantages in the electric ship field in terms of "technological leadership, market dominance, and ecosystem synergy", continuously guiding the industry's transition towards zero-carbon shipping. In the future, CATL will always continue to uphold quality as the cornerstone and innovation as the driving force, and collaborate with global shipping ecosystem partners to embark on a new journey of "comprehensive growth" and promote the new energy industry into an era of broader and more systematic growth.
