CATL breaks ground on its Shandong plant
On December 24, the groundbreaking ceremony for the battery plant project of Shandong Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL-SD) was held in Yanzhou District, Jining city of East China's Shandong Province. CATL 1.1 GW Fishery-PV National Large-scale PV Power Generation Base Project and CATL's first heavy truck battery swap station in Jining are also announced to start construction at the ceremony.
With a total investment of up to 14 billion yuan (about 2 billion U.S. dollars) and a planned area of about 2,000 mu (133.3 hectares), the battery plant project of CATL-SD includes production lines for EV batteries and energy storage systems. In addition, CATL will also work with the city of Jining to jointly promote projects in various sectors such as battery manufacturing, centralized PV power generation, energy storage stations, battery swapping and shipbuilding.
